We had 3 2.5 wk old pekin ducks, and were gone for 1.5 hrs this evening (full daylight). I left them outside in a little pen right near the back porch, where they've been staying during the day for the last several days. When I got home, one was lying dead with blood around its wing and a little blood on its neck, otherwise intact. I don't know whether my little bantam hen attacked it or a neighborhood cat... I feel so bad that I didn't lock them up before I left. It seems obvious in hindsight that these little creatures are very vulnerable.
