I have had 3 healthy hens for over 2 years, and last night one of the girls passed away in their coop. I am guessing from the heat, it's been heat index over 100 degrees the last 5 days, but they had shade and water and watermelon throughout the day yesterday.

We live in St. Louis.

Bummed.

Do they have a fan in the coop? When it's very hot they really need a fan to keep the air moving around them. I have mine on timers and when it's really hot they run late into the night. I have them set up so they blow on part of the roost and not the other but the chickens always choose to sit right under the breeze.
