Lost a chicken

I have two questions... First one: I had two chickens, Pookie and Pigpen. Friday Pookie disappeared right from under our noses literally. Well some if you may already know my chickens are very tame. We got a hen yesterday for Pigpen and thankfully, they get along just fine. But since Pookie disappeared Pigpen has been pecking our legs feet and hands-hard. I thump him on the head and say no and he stops but then as soon as we move he goes in for the kill again. Other than that he is his same sweet self. Once we sit down he's in our lap cuddling and doing his weird non-chicken I think I'm a cat stuff. Is this something I have to worry about cuz he's stressed or something? I don't want my sweet bird turning mean.
And question two: we let them free range for a little while when we are outside and Pigpens good about coming back when he's done acting like a chicken but when will it be ok to let our new hen Lucy out without fear of her wandering off and getting lost?

I think you should keep Lucy in the fence for a few weeks so she knows where to come home to and shouldn't wonder off.

Update: the next day hubby said Pigpen was crowing like a madman to go outside and basically driving him nuts. He didn't want Lucy sitting there by herself so he let her out too and he (Pig) stuck by her side and ushered her home at bedtime. It's been that way ever since. Lol so happy ending to a sad (Pookie) story. P.S. Lucy also finally laid an egg Monday too!
