Apologies for language. So I tried searching for stinky black throat and it took me to Squatch posts? I tried surfing through the emergency posts and came out traumatized and scared with still no answer. My elderly rooster Sugar Cookie is the patient. 3-5 year old Cochin roo. As I picked him up I caught a whiff of his breath and I instantly thought this is not a good situation. My second thought is Candidiasis but black throat? We don't have access to veterinary care so I'm toughing it out on my own. I am keeping an ear out for signs of respiratory infection but all I'm armed with is Tylan, my vet tech schoolbooks, and the Merk manual. Poor Cookie. Also he is in his own retirement barn with his woman, Almond Roca.

Can you get some photos of the inside of his beak?

Hard to know. A bad odor may be Canker. Metronidazole or Acidified Copper Sulfate can be used to treat Canker.

Update. I went out to get him to get photo and felt of his neck. If he were a person his tonsils are the size of baseballs. My husband smelled him right when I brought him in. What can I/ should I do first. Apple cider vinegar, yogurt, Tylan? Combo of all or some?. His crop is huge. I believe it to be impacted. Yuck and poor guy.

Hi Egg. He's still kicking, I don't know how. It's clearly yeast, I think, because I can see it. He has a huge lump. It's smaller than a baseball but larger than a golf ball. I did the route with Miconazile but my fault, he missed doses. Not sure if it will work if I do it again after a period of time. I have been hot packing it several times a day followed by aggressive cleaning with a baby nasal aspirator, commonly called a boogie sucker. I'm getting chunks out. Then I stop after I get it whittled down to superball size. I have been struggling to keep him hydrated enough. Today I bought Fruit flavored Pedialyte. I've stayed up with him, prayed over him, debated am I prolonging his suffering. He's got a wonderful appetite so it's been tough keeping him from cleaning up my floor for bits. I have 2 pullets inside because they are overly shy. So it's been tough and go. I have been wanting to update his progress or lack thereof but wasn't sure what to say. I know I'm going to get blasted by some for allowing him to keep on like this, but I'm pro life and so I can't willingly put him down. How could I claim to be pro life then. My Sugar Cookie has been such a trooper. My main goal has been keeping his airway clear. And hoping. Also no vet here will see chickens. Our last exotic vet isn't here anymore. Thank you for remembering us❤️
