You didn't ask for advice. This is just a suggestion for all the goat keepers out there. The best thing I have ever found for bloat is GasX. It is safe and works very fast. No goat medicine chest should ever be without it. Over the years I have tried ALL the regular medications for bloat, and the usual result was that the patient died in my arms. After a fellow goat dairyman told me about GasX almost all my bloat patients survived. Sometimes there is nothing you can do though. Like if the bloat is caused by a torsion or intestinal blockage or something. Or if the goat is too far gone when you find it. I am very very sorry for your loss. This is one time I can truly say I know exactly how you feel. I have been there and done that. More than once.
Thanks, Cassie. I"m adding it to my medicine chest today. I'm not sure I could have saved her. She was bad when I found her, but I wish I'd had something like that handy. Maybe it would have made a difference.
And for all the other ruminant owners, get someone to show you how to tube an animal. It is the quickest form of relief, and fairly easy once you learn how to do it.
Oh, I know how much it hurts to lose a goat. I lost one two years ago to polio and I still get misty when I think of her. I kept telling myself, it's only a goat; but she wasn't. She was a member of the family. My heart goes out to you.
