lost a hen today

Could she have needed to be wormed? Honestly, anything could kill a hen, but just in case I'd look and feel over the other birds to check their condition too, since you can improve their condition if needed.

But if everything seems in order and the other birds seem and feel fine, sometimes it's useful to remember that birds just die occasionally.

i did check them over and they all seem healthy.

You're probably doing okay then. You could get or do a necropsy on her, which was mentioned earlier, but most people don't ($$+time). If you're worried about something contagious, I'd clean up the area where she died, then quarantine your birds from other flocks for a few weeks and just watch. If she was sick, all her pen mates have probably already been exposed. It's like Schrodinger cat (chicken). They're either sick/exposed or they're not. Make sure nobody else is losing condition.
If nobody else seems to be suffering after that, they're probably okay. She may have had something wrong with her inside personally like a defect or a tumor.
I'm sorry you lost a hen.
(PS: if her only symptom was thinness, and lack of food was not an issue, I'd still suspect a heavy worm load or maybe coccidia. Sometimes some birds are more susceptible than others. I guess I'd just keep watching her friends and giving them a squish/pat every few days to make sure they're not getting thin over the next few weeks.)
