I'm sorry your first hatch didn't go well. Keep trying you'll eventually get it.
 
You can candle brown eggs! The really dark brown is hard but lighter ones are okay. Make sure your farmer knows you are planning to hatch eggs so he doesn't put them in the fridge. And he should have a rooster! No rooster=no chicks.

The ones that I ordered turned out duds.. the ones my hens and turkeys layed, I have had good success with those at the same time the bought ones..

Those eggs didn't make it past day 1 or 2. Either they were infertile, stored improperly, too old, or your incubator was not set up properly and you cooked them all on day 1. Most likely though they were no good when you set them or you'd have had something start to grow.
