Hello:

I started with 5 Barred Rocks 6 weeks ago, and sadly have only one left. I want to replace them, but when they are 6weeks the other will be 12 weeks. Can I put the older one with the others?

Thanks

Maybe let them share a brooder with a see-thru barrier between them (we make our own mesh panels) so the lone chick doesn't feel so alone. At 6 weeks they start working through their pecking order, if your 12 week old isn't too belligerent, you could try putting it with them but 6 weeks is a big distance. We haven't been able to put chicks together who are 4 weeks apart. Their growth really takes off from 6 weeks onward.

Before you get any new chicks, do you know why you lost them? You wouldn't want a repeat on losing more.

V!
