Hi guys, I FINALLY recieved my order of ducklings. I ordered them from a well known hatchery (atleast well known in CA) all but one arrived dead. It took a week for them to get to my home. Now im not sure what I should do to try and keep this little one alive. She has food, water, heat. I called around to feed stores within 100 miles of here. No one has ducklings, one place had a few chicks. Does she need other fowl with her now? Should she have some electrolytes? I need help!

If she is not stressed out she should be ok. You can order some vitamins and electrolytes to her water if you can get your hands on it. I use Sav-a-chick, nutridrench. Or dumor for mine when they were smaller. I saw a hatchery that had ducks available starting June 1 but I can’t remember off the to of my head which on it was.

Thank you! Im sure the hatchery I used will replace them, but now I am nervous they will have the same fate being shipped. Everything I've read says not to raise ducks alone. Is there any truth to this?

I never personally raised a single duckling but I’m sure she will be ok for a little bit. I have the same fear with the shipping waiting for my chicks to come in two weeks. Good luck with your next shipment I hope it goes well!!

It might be a good idea to get a few chicks, I do recommend the bigger breeds to be put with ducks, but any breed is fine except I don’t think it’s a good idea to put bantams with ducks. They’ll get run over by the duck. It’s ok to raise a duck on its own, that’s what I did when my ducklings all died except for one, but later got chickens and he loved having chickens around!
