I lost another chick last night, but this one looks like it pooped it's insides out. What is it? What causes it? Is it something that can happen to the others? I've lost 3 so far in this group and I'm pretty upset. This is the only one that looks like there was something serious wrong. Please let me know if you have any info on this.

I can't help with any explanation; just wanted to tell you I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I don't know what causes this...sorry for your loss. It really stinks to get the babies here and then something happen. I just hate that!

If it's a newly hatched chick sometimes it's belly button doesn't close all the way...It can get infected or grosser by far, someone can catch a toe on the other's intestines and pull them out.
It can be caused by having the humidity wrong.

Yeah, I'm really bummed. I've been cleaning pasty butts today. I still need to do more, but I can't catch the little boogers.

I have them in the outside brooder with a hover brooder they can hide under for warmth. I can't get around the stupid thing to catch them.

I got two that I got cleaned up and I'm keeping them in the house with some bantams for now. I think I need to catch and do about 3 more. It got too cold to keep trying, I don't want them to get a chill.

Are these sexed chicks? I read once somewhere (can't remember where) that vent sexed chicks are more likely to prolapse. Don't know if there's any truth to it or not, but it does kind of make sense
