lost another chick

I know there are not new chick I was trying to help you what the Hatchery told me to do (same Hatchery you got yours from as I did) There dying from something most of the time it's from not enough Vitamins and Electrolytes or if heat is to hot or to cold. Make sure you keep there bedding really clean to you can dumb all out or just add new over the top of it so not dirty and smelly. I would add some sugar to your quick chick water like they told me. Keep looking at temp and drafts. I had mine in my living room house in a huge tub. I hope we can help you I feel so bad for you! Did you call them and tell them about all the dead ones? They can give you in store credit on anything they sell or if all die a full credit and replace the whole batch for you. I would call and tell them you want them all replaced asap and they will they are for me. They were wonderful about it. You have to have the min of 25 still. Mine had both shots they had. You can always pm and I can talk to you more about it dear. Good luck! My kids are 3years old and 8 years old and there were really upset also. Our new ones come May 28-30th of this month. When I went to post office they were throwing peoples baby chicks around in there boxes and had chicken boxes stacked over all the chickens so not much air for them to breath. I was very upset when I saw this at post office. I talked to Hatchery about it they really think it was the stress of the post office and so do I. There are now sending it to a diff post office my local one now with new order not the other post office that I saw doing that to everyone's chicken.

Thanks. I thought you were thinking they were new chicks. Hope i didn't offend. The hatchery is replacing the chicks who died within their guaranteed 48 hours but i doubt they'll do anything for the one who died last night. I'll keep adding the electrolytes for a while still and see if it helps them out. I haven't done any sugar in their water but i can. I thought they were old enough to not need all this stuff still but if they need it i'll give it to them. The hatchery wasnt able to get me the breeds i lost until late june and i already had an order being shipped in late July so they're just sending my replacements with that order. Hopefully they'll do better next time. This time they were shipped in a snow storm so i know they got really chilled and the post office wasn't handling them very well. When the lady brought me my box she was being very rough with them. I'm going to be in town today and i'll look into the Nutri Drench stuff. I know i've seen it on the shelves before.

I will add that if you don't get them on a medicated feed right away you could lose them all because coccidious is caused by consumption of infected droppings, the lining of the intestinal track invaded, causing serious tissue damage. Signs are droopy, pale, not eating & producing bloody stool. You can minimise the impact by ensuring that the bedding is kept dry & changed regularly.
I'm truly sorry for your lose. I hope this helps.

With Nutri- Drench its not recommend to be used until the chicks are 10 days old. I'm pretty certain the hatchery instructions will warn against additives to the water

Most of the time they will replace the ones that died after the 48 hours also just call and see doesn't hurt to try. Good luck honey I wouldn't add anything else to there water then what I said. Have a better day nice talking to you dear. I would love to be your friend on here. See you later!

I called the hatchery. They said it sounds like i'm doing everything i should be. They thought perhaps the stress of the rough shipping just finally took it's toll. They weren't interested in replacing the one we lost yesterday. I guess time will tell if that was our problem or not. I even asked if they had any idea why i'm only losing RIR's and Orpington's and they had no idea. Our Amerauca's and Barred Rocks have been fine so far except one Rock that didn't survive the trip through the mail.

They do not have coccidiosis. There's no bloody droppings. And they've been on medicated feed from their first bite of food. Their brooder is dry and bedding is completely changed every 3 days.
