Lost bird in Kansas post office

No idea about the illegal part. Dock employees think it was drop shipped by Fed-Ex and the label was missing.

USPS rocks!

Bird was reunited this afternoon with its Wichita area owner.

Wichita area customer had picked up a rooster yesterday, but another box that was supposed to be with it was missing. The shipper said the boxes had been duct taped together and apparently were separated somewhere along the way through Fed-Ex.

This box had duct tape on it too, so they were pretty sure it had gotten to the right home.

Lesson learned - label both boxes!

But it was a great day for at least a few postal workers who had a part in this happy ending.

Now that is one of the rare cases of USPS doing good!

Unfortunately, one never hears about all the good that USPS does.

Like the carrier union spending every second Saturday in May collecting food for local food banks. Many of them picking up canned goods from their customers and carrying it all the way back to their truck in their mailbag and then doing it again the next loop.

Or all the employees that every day, deliver every piece of mail that makes it to their little corner of the universe. Even if the address is bad, or there is a dog in the yard, or the rain, sleet, hail or snow make it just one more miserable day.

Or all the fund-raising they do every year for MDA.

Nope - never hear about all that. But you can bet your bottom dollar that we hear about every little check that doesn't get there just one day sooner. Or junior's present from grandma that she probably forgot to mail. Or how greedy we are because we want even 1cent more for a stamp to get that card clear across the country or around the world.

Just sayin .... and now my postal worker rant is done.

I do love my post office! They've called me at 3 AM when a fish I received in the mail had a leaking bag/box. They always call me at 6 AM for birds, too.
They're wonderful.

I love my post office too.. I currently live in a small community that I had wanted to live in since I was a young girl. I ended up moving here and been here for 20 yrs. The post office is the hub of the community. It's what keeps me connected to whats going on in the area. Shoot the PO lady will call us to make sure we're ok if we haven't picked up the mail in a few days. She's called us when she thought it was our dog running lose (wasn't) but nice to know people are looking out for you.

Lastnight the postoffice people came to a town meeting because they're talking about closeing down our PO. Very sad cause most of the folks in our area are elderly and this PO is so convenient for them, well and us as well.

Another post office fan checking in - maybe it's due to the fact that I grew up and have lived most of my life in Vermont, but I love the post office also! Every mail carrier I've ever had has always gone above and beyond the call of duty. They manage to get the mail to us even through the worst of winter; last year we had so much snow it was impossible to keep the mailbox clear, and the poor guy had to use one of those pinchy extender things to get the mail into the box (or get out and climb the snowbank). If we get a package, he'll always come to the house and carry it up onto the porch.
On the rare occasions when I have had chicks shipped to me they have always been more than willing to open the box, put in water, and call me personally to let me know the chicks have arrived.

When it comes to handling - mail also gets carried on commercial flights, and those handlers do not work for the post office, which is most likely where the damage is occurring. I don't think there are many out there who will defend airport baggage handlers as being particularly careful or thoughtful!

obviously, there will be good people and bad people in any group of people.
