Lost Heirloom Seeds!

Wow, thanks so much for that link, Imp! Qi Chicken, as a matter of fact, we have a cathedral in Portland and I plan on asking there too!

Ah, yes, Seed Savers is great. They sell a decent number of tomatoes varieties, but they also compile a "yearbook" of literally thousands of heirlooms grown by their members. I think you have to sign up to be a member and pay dues, but I don't think it's too much. Members can contact each other and share seeds. You might get lucky that way.

I'm not a mater person, except for making my sauce, so I'm not help at all except as an ear.

Best best best of luck in your hunt... speaking of which, I think we outta let Ol' Elmer know that it's Monsanto Season.

I must second this. It's $40 for a membership. The yearbook contains roughly 5000 varieties of tomatoes. Close to 13,000 varieties of seeds and scionwood in all.

What kind of tomato are you looking for? Type (cherry/grape/paste/beefsteak)? Color (red/orange/yellow/black/white/green)?

Thanks for all this information on Seed Savers. I had heard of the organization, but I was totally unfamiliar with how they operate.

This is going to be frustrating to hear, but I really can't describe the tomato. It's been more than 13 years since I saw one. My mother can describe them but I haven't heard back from her since I emailed her a few days ago. I do know that they were red and they are NOT cherry tomatoes and probably not beefsteak. They were most likely a lot like Roma tomatoes. They are kind of a dual purpose fruit - as good for making sauces as they are for chopping and putting on salad.

Monsanto season! I love it!
