hi all sorry not been back soon we've been trying to de-flood the field, lost another 2 chickens and 1 turkey to drowning this weekend so it had to be done today.

Lucky (as ive now named her) is still with us. she hasnt moved from the same spot since yesterday but has eaten 2 hard boiled eggs mushed up with grains and yoghurt and has drank about 100mls water today. im a little concerned about her not moving about but im guessing the thorns are hurting so i have to try and get them out. have not yet tried the epsom bath but am going to give it a go tonight. i didnt want to stress her out too much yesterday as she didnt look too good. her eye is less swollen today and doesnt seem damaged so fingers crossed it was just a scratch there

Maybe soaking her a couple times will help to bring the thorns up to the surface so you can get ahold of her... Give Lucky a big hug for us..

Spish, wish I was your neighbor. I'd help you clear that field. I am so sorry you lost your birds. Yes, this place is wonderful. I learn about 10,000 things a visit! Glad to hear Lucky is pulling through and looking forward to hearing about how she's doing when you have a chance. -Egg

Lucky is doing so well that today im going to put her back out with her friend (affectionatly known as the Fake)
the warm water helped bring out the thorns and i *think* we got them all, in just a few days the scabs have nealy totally healed over and Lucky was getting restless in her cage. so shes been freeranging in the pantry (causing mayhem!!!) and shall go out this afternoon!

many thanks for all the help x

i wish you were too! could use some help! after pumping all that water out it only went and rained again for 2 days flooding it again....so we've left the pump out there running and made 'bridges' over he water so the chooks dont have to swim across to the front anymore

once the weather gets warmer (spring will soon be here im sure..time is flying by this year!!) we're gonna dig some new trenches to divert the water back into the river away from the field....but i dare not tackle it while its still wet out there!

Hi Spish, so happy to hear how good Lucky is doing.. That is great and hope you have some drier weather soon. It's been crazy every where this year.. We have snow and ice that will probably be here till May...
