Lost my 1st hen

I had a situation last night. My EE has been sitting for a day. she started stretching her neck and opening beak to get air. Not making any sound but could hear gasping. She started having a seizure and died. Don't know what happened.

I have been dealing with illness in my coop as well, so I had to say that I am so sorry for your loss. I live in a world of farmers and there doesn't seem to be a history of 200 dollar vet visits for a 4 dollar chicken. I hope that changes in the near future, with so many people having chickens as pets now days. I love my girls! Again, so sorry!

It would be best to start a whole new thread of your own to get individual attention. She may have had a respiratory infection, something stuck in her throat, or possibly worms causing an obstruction in her airway. If it should happen again, contact your state vet for a necropsy. Also, if a chicken appears sick, do a head to toe examination of the crop, look for mites or lice, look at droppings, check if they will drink fluid or eat, and look for any nasal drainage or vreathing problems. Very sorry for your loss.
