I'm so sorry! So she was hit by a car? Why wouldn't the people stop after hitting a Domestic duck?

People (some do, but, sadly a lot don't) don't stop for dogs, deer, bear.etc It's sad. Read and hear stories all the time .

sorry for the loss of Bambi.
But, like everyone says. Free ranging is a joy that alot of birds never get. I let mine free range, when I'm home only. But, they beg like dogs to get out and watching them enjoy life as it should, is worth the risk. I try to keep an eye out of course, first sign of an eagle, owl or loose dog, I'm out and herding them into safe quarters.
It was an accident. Sorry it was such a horrible thing to have to see.

GW, don't beat yourself up over it. You were being a good mom by letting them have the freedom they wanted. It is not your fault. I had a dog one time and I did not lock it up in it's pen one night and it got hit by a car...I grieved my self sick literally for about 6 months..and still think about it. And NO, no one stopped or came by the house to tell me about it. I found it 3 days later in the edge of the woods suffering...I hated myself....please don't do it to yourself.

I jut got done burying her. What tore me up but was also a blessing was i was able to set her down and her head was already twisted in a stiff way from the accident so i was able to set her in the grave where she looked like she had her bill nuzzled under her wings.

I wish that someone would come forward. We live in a small neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. My ducks cross that little section of road all day long and they are always in a group. My neighbors know i am the duck girl and even though it wont change anything id like to know who it was.
