We let our chickens free-range 24/7 so when one turned up missing my thoughts were a critter took her (Barred Rock) I found no blood or feathers though, my wife had butcher our older hen that day so we had one more egg than we had chickens so we knew we were missing one. I checked the neighbors yard, when we fed the others she was no where to be seen, I checked my workshop since they like to lay eggs in a nesting box I put inside. A couple days later my wife told me I better check the workshop again because of an odor and flies, I looked in a 55 gallon drum once previous and saw nothing then I removed all the tools I had standing in it I saw her laying on the bottom, my lesson learned is the drum is no longer there so this accident can't happen again.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. Whatever you do, do not blame yourself. We are all here for you.
