We lost our only White Giant last night, no apparent reason as to why. She was perfectly fine yesterday except that she had gone into a nesting box when all the others were setting up for the night to roost, I thought maybe she might be going broody so I didn't give it a second thought. This morning I let them out and she didn't come out so I went in and found her lying down on her belly on the floor in the corner of the coop with her her head curled under her chest, gone! Me and the boys are devastated!!! She was one of our favorites

I'm sorry for your lost one. The very same thing happened to me, and to some other people on BYC. Take comfort in knowing that it's nothing you might have done wrong - chickens just up and die sometimes for reasons we'll probably never know. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Buff....I do see a lot of post of others losing birds for unexplained reasons, I just never wanted to be one of them! Although I don't wish death on any of my girls, I just wished it hadn't been one of my singletons. Like our first guineas we lost last Thanksgiving to dogs running loose, we'll take her body to the meadow up behind but away from the house, and place her in a nook of trees under the Bald Eagle's nest so that she may provide food to Eagle,s chicks. My boys refer to it as the "Circle of Life."
