Lost My Flock Last Night

I lost 7 of my nine girls and my turkey to a neighbors dogs who literally broke into our pen and destroyed my happy flock! I'm so heart broken and feel like I let the girls down!!

So very sorry about your loss, I feel your pain. GO directly to the owners of the dogs that broke into your pen & let them know they owe you for the damage their beasts did, also let them know that if the dogs EVER set paw on your place again they will be destroyed. File a report of this with your local law enforcement & Animal Control and take pictures, LOTS of them, for use in filing charges against the owners. Put hot wire around your pen for your remaining girls & any others you may get to replace the ones you lost. Again, sorry about your loss.

We just lost our 7 to I believe a weasel. I truly have no idea how it got in, all doors were all latched shut. I've walked around that **** coop so many times I'm dizzy and don't see anything obvious. I'm going to strip all the pine shavings out when it warms up and assess and then plan. I've ordered a new flock and they won't come in untiil July and so plenty of time to plot and plan. My hubby built our coop and said he feels as if he's failed me. I told him no way, its Man vs Wild every day out there and we finally just lost.

So sorry about your girls. Weasels are bad & notorious diggers. I don't know what kind of floor you have, but if it's dirt, have DH dig down at least 6" all around perimeter of coop, attach 1/2" hardware cloth, then bury or you could put in a solid floor to discourage any digging predators. Growing up on a farm in ND, we had problems with Badgers getting in, It was a constant battle, until we put a solid floor in the coop. Good luck & again, so sorry about your loss.
