Just lost my roo today :(. He was only a year old, but about 5 weeks ago he stopped crowing, and seemed pretty listless. His comb was pale, and he was pale around his face. I picked him up to check his crop (which was fine) and noticed he was super thin. Hard to tell on him just from looking because of his beautiful full feathers. First thing I thought was Coccidiosis, so everyone was treated. I saw little improvement after a week. I then wormed everyone with Wazine, and then Safeguard paste. Still no improvement. He was eating and drinking normally. Yesterday he had watery diarrhea. Today he went back into the coop, laid down on the straw and slowly faded away. We loved him so. Any ideas as to what might have been wrong?

There's so many things it could have been that it can be impossible to tell without a necropsy. Could have been disease, could have been something internally wrong with him. Sometimes they get sick. Sorry.

It happens. A failure to thrive. You must have spoiled him rotten. Most roos don't get to die naturally. Sorry. Look on Craigslist and find a surrogate. Good luck.

Refrigerate his body in a plastic bag, and contact your state vet or poultry lab for a necropsy. Heart failure, aspergillosis from mold, or any number of illnesses could have been the cause. Sorry for your loss.
