I lost several to some neighborhood dogs. It was terrible. Iām sorry you had to experience that.
Do you know the neighbors?
I donāt know where you stand on ādefending your flockā but there are different avenues you can take. Talking to the neighbor, legal action and lethal action(on your property only).
Unless the dog has a reason to not come back he will. That is a problem you absolutely need to address. Depending on the size of the dog it might mean A LOT more fortification than normal, or at least what you are used to. He needs to be kept away from your flock. The owner is absolutely responsible but sometimes we canāt depend on other people to be responsible. If the owner doesnāt keep him, you will need to scare him off.
In my county, animal control will come out and put humane traps out and the owner will have to pay to get them back. Each time following, it costs more. And at some point they will not be allowed to get the dog back.
Good luck. I hope your new flock does well.
I've heard this. I'm in Kentucky. I'll check what my rights are. Thank you!Legal action is sometimes hard. Without proof, it would be difficult to get a ruling in your favor in civil court. But I would call your sheriffs office and tell them. Even file a report. If you see the dog I your property, call them. Animal control or the sheriffs office will be able to tell you what action you can take legally. I have put a bullet into a tree near some dogs I saw getting to close to my chicken coop and never saw them again. I donāt condone this, but itās legal for me to kill a dog if itās āattacking or harassingā my livestock.
I didn't catch him doing it, so I have no proofSo sorry about your flock.I agree with the others about filing a report. If their dog killed your birds on your property they should pay to replace them.
And thank youI didn't catch him doing it, so I have no proof![]()
They would have no proof either if you killed their dog and buried it somewhere..I didn't catch him doing it, so I have no proof![]()
