A couple of weeks ago, one of my hens was acting sluggish but still eating and drinking normally. I started noticing green shavings in the coop in the mornings when we got up. She also had poop caked onto her bum. I took her in, gave her bath, and dried her off. She seemed to be getting better. Thursday, I realized that she was the one creating the green shavings because she had very green, watery poo. I called the vet and he said that we could try worming all of them but he suggested we bring her in. I did worm them and was planning on bringing her in on Friday morning. Yesterday, when I went outside, I noticed her crop was FULL even though she had not eaten. I tried to massage the crop very softly and offered her some water and yogurt. I held her for a few minutes and loved on her. When I put her back in the pen, she started gurgling and sputtering water. Next thing I know, she’s dead. First chicken I’ve ever lost after 3 years! Everyone else is fine and healthy. My question is...does this sound like impacted crop, sour crop or neither? I’m very sad! we have her buried in the back yard and my 11 year old son made a cross for her grave.
