I lost my Sussex yesterday. I want to replace her with another but I am cocerned about bringing in just one. I had 4, The maximum allowed under local law. Any advise on this would be helpful.

I just added to my flock. I got 3 young birds (3mo old), had them in quarentine for a week, then release them into the hen house. There was the usual pecking and scrapes, but after 2 days they are all getting along. I also just bought some week old chicks, but I am keeping them seperate until they feather out fully...right now they look like a snack to the other chickens. So, in conclusion, if it were me, I would find one feather out, but younger or buy a chick or two and add them to the flock when the're bigger. I like to stagger the ages in my coop.
