Lost Scout

Ezra looked thoughtfully in the direction that Strider pointed. "That's the direction of the road, and where Duke came from. I wouldn't be surprised if they ran into each other accidently, unless the orcs are tracking us. Do you think that might have been what made the tracks that we followed earlier?" He looked at Aelfric and frowned, worried about Danielle. The fact that her coat was in the saddle bag made him almost positive that she had been the one riding him, but since he couldn't prove it he didn't want to make an false assumptions that would lead to a rash decision. "In any case, there's not much that we can do until first light but wait."
Strider nodded and looked to Aelfric "If you don't mind, I will share your fire for the rest of this night, then we can pick up the tracks in the morning."

Ezra turned away from both of the other men and returned to his camping spot with Danielle's cloak still clutched in his hands. Bring it to his nose, he breathed in the sweet scent of his daughter. It was definitely hers. He knelt down and took up a sitting position against a tree that allowed him to watch over the entire camp and tucked the cloak tightly in his lap, like a security blanket. "I'll take the next watch..." He offered quietly. "Probably won't sleep much more anyways..."

(Haven't forgotten about you guys. I have a reply half-written, but work keeps getting in the way! I'll try to work on it later tonight!)

"Of course I don't mind, friend," Aelfric said to Strider, gesturing to the fire to invite Kane to join them. To Ezra, he nodded. "I don't blame you," he said. "Not sure how much I'll be able to sleep after this news, either."

He moved back toward the small fire and sat down next to it, trying to not allow images of the atrocities that could be happening right now intrude into his thoughts.

Back in the orc cage, Gytha looked over at the girl who had just said "hi". Reba, if Gytha remembered correctly, was the girl's name. "You holding up alright?" she asked.

"My thanks" Strider said and nodded then went to get his horses and bag. He took the two horses and tied them near the others, then went to find a place to lay down, staring at the stars overhead. Sleep was hard to come by and had been ever since waking to find Reba gone.

~~~
Reba nodded "As well as can be expected, considering" She said softly. Four days in this place had dimmed her spirit, but she refused to give in completely to the despair. She let a wry smile show before letting herself lay down again.
