Lost Scout

Gomez brushed his hands against his pants, as though the matter was a done deal. "Its settled then. I will pass this information on to the orcs, I am sure they will find it most helpful. Expect us through this cave in the next day or so I think, unless something unexpected has come up. I doubt it though, they are very close. Keep the girls quiet for now, it won't be long before we can get rid of them. Until then I bid you my farewell, gentlemen, good luck."

Charles felt his mouth harden at the jab, self conscious of the pox scars adorning his features.

"So the way is clear and we have a plan," Laethros said. "I think the next time we meet, things should get interesting."

I'm good with it if you make up details.)

"Oh," Gytha said simply, then rested her head back on her knees, too tired and miserable to give much thought to what might be found in the crates.
(Okay :) )
Anna pulled off another piece of the wooden lid so she could pull out the item to examine it. She frowned and concentrated. "Never realize how much you rely on sight to know what something is." She muttered. It seemed to be a hammock? She shook her head and set that down beside her to check further in the crate. She paused then smiled "We have a hammock, we could use it as a net when they come back." she said then continued to look in the crate.

"Of course, of course," Laethros said, giving a small wave of farewell as Gomez eparted

Again, Charles kept his emotions carefully concealed, which was made slightly easier since the only light came from the flickering torches, one of which they gave to Gomez to find his way easier through the dark tunnel. But he felt another wave of guilt and doubt as Gomez mentioned getting rid of the girls. Having hostages could potentially prove useful, depending upon how the next day or so played out, but could he just stand by and let Gytha be killed when it was all over? Or even the other girl who he did not know well, but who had smiled at him sweetly when she asked to join their mission?

"Let's get some rest. Tomorrow might be a long day," Laethros said.

"A hammock? That could do well," Gytha said. "Particularly if we can draw just one of them in," she said quietly, thinking out loud.

Gomez scrambled back up the tunnel leading passed the locked cage where Gytha and Anna were being held. He paused for a moment as he went by but didn't say anything or stop long enough for either of them to say anything to him. With the single torch he didn't see the hammock which Anna had pulled out, and departed quickly for the cave exit. After extinguishing the torch and leaving it concealed in a bush, Gomez set a quick pace through the trees back towards the orc camp. He was excited to pass the news onto them, it seemed like they would finally get their chance to destroy Aberdeen after waiting for so many years!

The sun was barely setting behind the trees when Ezra and Jasper broke out of the trees and onto the dirt road which led back to the settlement. With no problems are hang ups, the trip had taken even less time then Ezra was anticipating. "If we ride all night we should be there by dawn." He said to Jasper as he steered Panago in the right direction. "I hope Aelfric and Strider are behind us somewhere with the girls..."

He said to Jasper as he steered Panago in the right direction. "I hope Aelfric and Strider are behind us somewhere with the girls..."

"There's enough moon to do it," Jasper said, which was just barely true. The waning moon was already visible, hardly a quarter full. "We can pick up the pace for awhile. Duke's got plenty of energy." The surgeon's apprentice couldn't help but notice the way Ezra glanced behind, as if he was expecting to see Aelfric and Strider catching up with them any moment. But he felt awkward saying something like "don't worry", so he didn't. "Might could make it before dawn if we push the horses a little."

Strider narrowed his eyes and stood. He put his sword away and picked up his bow, walking quietly out into the forest. He wasn't sure what he had seen, just a movement that could have easily been an animal, so he didn't alert the others. He approached the place with caution, eyes flicking from one shadow to another as he searched for any signs or other movements.

Vorgak peered between two bushes, watching the human walking slightly away from the camp and in the direction of Orkhan and Draugnot. His eyes scanned the others, who appeared to be sleeping. Hefting his club, he looked back at Grishkah, a young female orc, freshly arrived in the camp and yet to face her first human. She looked up with eager anticipation and he motioned her forward, pointing at the escaped slaves. Together they began creeping forward, intending to grab at least one or two before all hell broke loose.

"We'll stretch them as much as we can, Panago is good for now as well." Ezra replied. Initially he had been concerned about Jasper's riding experience taking Duke, an energetic and fairly green broke colt. The horse and rider, however, had proved to be up for challenge. He couldn't have asked for that aspect of their trip home to have gone any better.

"I hope Lord Ragnar has an open mind." He eyed the piece that Aelfric had given him. "They aren't going to like what we have to say." As a farmer he didn't know the Lord as intimately as someone like Aelfric, he didn't have any idea what to expect from the man when they came with the bad news.

By this time Orkhan and Draugnot had reached the opposite side of the makeshift camp and were silently holding their position. Having hunted with Vorgak on numerous occasions he had a pretty good idea of what the other orc was going to do. That, along with his night vision, which was better then most humans, allowed him to barely able to pick out Vorgak and Grishkah approaching from the opposite side.

Realizing what they were attempting to do, he slowly and silently sank down into a low crouch, and directed Draugnot to do the same. Knowing that Strider was skilled with a bow, he was placing the two of them out of likely range of an arrow if the archer shot at them. Deliberately, he crunched a twig under his foot to draw Striders attention to them and allow Vorgak and Grishkah to continue approaching undetected.

Anna nodded in the dark room then spoke "Yeah, hey there's something else." She said, getting excited. She pulled out the wooden poles and hefted one "The poles for the hammock. We can use them as clubs"

Strider turned towards the sound, but that was enough to convince him that they were in danger. He whistled loudly to alert the others and pulled back on the arrow, shooting blindly since the orcs were not in a position to be seen. He quickly set another arrow as he heard his horse whinny, followed quickly by Rosa.
Ruby woke at the sound of first the whistle, then the horses. She looked around before getting up and pulling out her sword "Get up, get to the horses." She called out, searching for the danger. She saw the two orcs close by and moved towards them, trying to avoid the other people as she did.

Danielle sat up quickly, so quickly that momentarily her foggy vision became even more blurred as the blood rushed out of her head. She hadn't meant to fall asleep so deeply, but the night in the orc camp had left her so tired that her body had involuntarily succumbed to sleep. She scrambled to her feet and looked around blindly, confusion written plainly across her face. In the span of a couple of seconds, chaos had erupted around her and she had yet to see why...

The other slaves from Wedmor who had fallen asleep around her also seemed equally as confused at first, but got their bearings much quicker. Bagira and Milly's husband (I'm going to name him Mark, BTW) grabbed the reins of the Aelfric's horse to prevent the frightened animal from bolting off. Luella wiped the sleep from her eyes and moved to help Ruby. She had no weapon, only an armful of medium sized rocks which she began chucking at Vorgak and Grishkah.

The first arrow which Strider shot sailed high and over the heads of Orkhan and Draugnot. At the sound of the archers whistle, both orcs charged forward while the camp was still shrouded in confusion. From his initial sweep, Orkhan was sure that several of the humans were still unaware of what was going on. Both armed with shields and heavy metal armour, the orcs crashed loudly through the trees towards Strider. At close range they knew that the arrow he had just set would become useless.

Running behind Orkhan, Draugnot let out a fierce snarl as they closed in on the camp. "Kill the horses!" He bellowed in orc tongue. Without a mode of transportation, they would be stuck in orc territory...
