Lost Scout

Orkhan seen Rosa turning to run and he shouted "STOP" a second time, jerking the dagger closer to Strider's neck and turning his gaze specifically towards Ruby. The camp had suddenly become a lot quieter, making it easier for his voice to be heard. "Move, and I will kill." He glared at everyone standing in the clearing. "Bad humie slaves belong to orcs, not free!"

On his knees, Strider didn't have a lot of leverage to push back with against Orkhan's knees. The angry, and heavier orc, refused to budge an inch.

As Ruby's horse turned suddenly away, Grishkah managed to get herself back to her feet. She knew she could not catch the fleeing horse, but the girl that had hit her with the rock was still there. Determined to prove herself to Vorgak and Orkhan and capture at least one slave tonight, the orc lunged toward Luella, simply aiming her club at the woman's center of mass.

Vorgak's club landed with a heavy thud in the dirt barely an inch from Mark's head as the man rolled away. Undeterred, Vorgak sent a hard kick toward the human's stomach as he sneered. "Humie weak. Only good slave."

After rolling to avoid the club Mark wasn't able to see Vorgak until his head had completed a full circle. At which point the only thing he saw was a large black boot swinging towards his stomach. This time he wasn't quick enough to avoid it completely, and it hit him square in the stomach as he was trying to complete a second roll. The kick sent his stomach reeling into his throat, and forced out all of the air in his lungs, leaving him winded and gasping for breath. He stopped rolling on his back and sucked hungrily at fresh air in between trying not to puke and coughing.

"Half-wit murderer..." He almost choked on the words but forced them out anyways, it was the least he could do for Milly. "I'll kill you!"

(He pulled Strider to his feet just a moment ago, but can still go with he didn't move the orc.)

Ruby pulled back on the reins to stop Rosa, but the mare crowhopped then bolted, twisting a little as Ruby tried to turn her back.

Luella's eyes widened and her first and only reaction to Grishkah's sudden charge was to scream and chuck the remaining rocks in the general direction of the incoming orc. She stumbled backwards a couple of steps before she finally got her bearings and began running as fast as her legs could carry her into the trees. After being in the orc camp for several days she wasn't at her full strength, but the adrenaline, combined with running for her life gave her renewed energy.

In doing so she nearly collided with Danielle, who was hiding behind a tree just outside the camp. She planned on running with the other girl, but stopped dead in her tracks when Orkhan yelled "stop" a second time. Unsure of who had suddenly yelled, the voice distracted her enough to make her turn around and look towards Orkhan and Strider.

(Sorry, I meant to say knees

sometimes my fingers have different words in mind when I write fast, and I don't notice the mistake!)

Orkhan waited, the dagger poised and ready. He recognized that Ruby was trying to stop Rosa, but wasn't particularly concerned with giving them a fair chance to save Strider's life.

Ruby finally managed to bring Rosa to a stop at the very edge of the camp. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair then looked back to her father.

Rosa stood, trembling. She was poised to flee at the slightest provocation.

Jasper had met Lord Ragnar only a few times, and that was only because Corin had been called in to treat some minor ailment or injury among Ragnar's men. "He seems the reasonable sort," the surgeon's apprentice said hopefully, "but can't say for certain." He couldn't help but wonder what might happen if the nobleman doubted their story.

The thought weighed heavily on him as they continued their journey, unaware of the troubles that had befallen their friends, now miles behind.

Ezra remained silent for a long while as Jasper had merely repeated his own thoughts. He wasn't sure why he was so worried about it, as Aelfric had given them the token to prevent that very thing from happening. It just seemed so far fetched, even to him... and he had been there! He had experienced it first hand!

"I hope you're right, Jasper." He said eventually. "We'll find out in the morning I suppose, try and get some rest up there if you can. I doubt we'll get much rest once the word gets out at Aberdeen."

Orkhan watched her until he was reasonably sure that she wasn't about to dart off again. Despite that she had done exactly as he had commanded her to, he still didn't look pleased. In fact, he looked even more irritated than before. "Get off horse." He ordered in a low, rough voice. Rosa was no use to him if she ran, although he was concerned that she might try and charge at one of them again. And so along with his first order he added "hold horse."

Ruby glanced to him then looked down at Rosa. She started speaking softly to the mare then moved to dismount.Rosa shifted and caused Ruby's foot to touch the blade that was still in her. Rosa went wild again and Ruby had to jump to not be thrown. Rosa bolted, headed for Mark and Vorgak "Rosa" Ruby called and stood up, watching the mare disappear.
