Lost Scout

Gomez grappled with Aelfric through the bars while sneering at his face, off colored spittle bubbling through the gaps in his teeth. "Where you g-gonna go? Eh?" He asked hoarsely. "You gonna run to her, m-make sure she's safe?"

Aelfric didn't bother forming a retort, focusing instead on tightening his fingers around Gomez's throat even more, fully intending to keep squeezing until the disgusting creature lost that horrible smirk permanently. If this failed, if Gomez managed to escape his grasp, he figured he was as good as dead. "Open it!" he growled.

Anna glanced to the cliff they had to climb and sighed then looked to Leanthros "Alright, let's get going"

~~~
David led the way back to the trail then turned to follow it to the pass. Once on the main road he glanced to the others "Let's pick up the pace" He said and turned forward, nudging his horse to a canter.
Reba worked slowly as the day moved on. Balrash and the other orcs were keeping an eye on her and the other humans so they had no chance to escape yet. Not that she could get very far as weak as she was now.
"L-Let... go..." Gomez was struggling to get the words out now. There were only two keys for the cage which Aelfric was in. One belonged to Kagan, and the other was hanging on the wall next to Ghegari's pots and pans. With Aelfric holding onto his neck, he wasn't able to reach either of them. "Wall..." he gestured to the spot on the wall with his eyes, as his hands were tightly clamped around Aelfric's. The man would have to release him in order for Gomez to reach the key...
Leathros clenched his teeth and hobbled the few steps toward the bottom of the trail up the side. "You'll have to lend me your shoulder, I think..." he said, not believing he could traverse the climb without her help.
Aelfric had many a long hour staring at that key hanging on the wall, so was prepared for that answer, even if he had been hoping Gomez happened to have another key. Part of him considered simply choking the life out of Gomez and not taking the risk of releasing him. It was tempting, for sure. Instead, he kept the choke hold long enough for the creature's struggles to weaken, but not long enough for Gomez to pass out. Then transferred his grip quickly to the creature's right wrist. "Get it," he said. There should be just enough room for Gomez to reach the key.
Anna closed her eyes and took a deep breath before going to his side and putting an arm around his back. There was already a sleight trembling that he would be able to feel wherever their bodies touched simply from the thought of climbing the cliff. She was determined to get past it though. I t would remain to be seen if she could without freezing up She waited for him to put his arm around her shoulders before taking a step to put them on the trail.
Laethros draped his arm over her shoulder, leaning heavily on her as the pair started up the trail. And after the exhausting trek from the day before and no chance to wash up, he smelled almost as bad as one of the orcs. "You just stay on the cliff wall side," he said, feeling her slight tremble. "And keep lookin' up." The sooner they got the top, the better.
Anna looked to him then to the trail. She nodded but remained silent as they started up the trail, moving along it to reach the top. She was eager to be done with cliffs in general and hoped that once this was past she would not have to see one ever again. She did not tell him that looking up it was nearly as bad as looking down, she just kept her gaze focused on the wall beside them, hoping with each step that it would disappear and show that they were over the cliff.
The moment Aelfric released his choke hold Gomez sank back to the ground and fell to his knees as his feet made contact with the ground again. He took several huge gulps of air, then broke into a fit of coughing as his throat and windpipe were still irritated after having been grabbed so tightly. As the feeling in his fingers and toes came back, the rush of oxygen made him feel light headed and giddy, and he began laughing hysterically at Aelric. So much so that the combination of being able to breath again, and the laughter, made tears come to his eyes.
"Wha? You want the key? Ahhhaaahhhaaaa..." He snorted with laughter and pressed himself against the bars of the cage. After a few seconds the laughing ceased and he peered around a bar at Aelfric. "Where are you going to go? Eh? Aacckkk!" He suddenly coughed up a mouthful of phlegm and spat it at Aelfric's feet. "You aren't going to get two miles into the bush before another miserable animal finds you!"
The clouds raced across the bright blue sky, and a strong, cold breeze blew Leonara's long wavy hair into a frenzy, most of it still held back by the blue ribbon. She pulled her long wool shawl tightly around her body, light green dress wipping around her ankles, and holding her shepherd's crook in her right hand as she tended her father's large herd of sheep.
"Morell, what are you doing away from the mine?" She asked as she spotted his thin form coming up the grassy, yellow flower studded incline.
"They think that I, somehow made part of the mine collapse," He replied bitterly, straightening his loose fitting gray shirt and crossing his arms to fend off the cold mountain air.
Leona gasped, "The mine collapsed, was anyone hurt?!"
Morell shrugged, "Jankin hurt his leg, not too badly though. I didn't really hang around to find out what happened, but no-one got seriously injured..."
"Well, that is good," She sighed, glanced up the incline to where the sheep were grazing.
Then she asked, sounding concerned, "Why do they think you caused it, did you, Morell...?" She knew how much he despised most of the people in Camden, and he had once thrown a pot of hot stew on an innkeeper that refused to serve him, the man still ran the Inn, and still had scars...
"Don't be naive, of coures I did not! They always blame me for any bad luck that comes their way, you know that!" He snapped, kicking one of the loose stones that dotted the area.
Leonara scowled, turning away from him and walking up towards the sheep, hurt by his rude outburst, though it wasn't uncommon.
"I'm sorry, Leona, I didn't mean to say that!" Morell called, hurrying after her.
"I'm tired of you getting mad at me when I didn't do anything wrong! Just leave me alone, Morell, I don't want to talk to you right now."
He stopped following her, "Leona... I'm sorry, please!" Morell called after her pleadingly, but she ignored him.
Morell stood there for away, her figure growing smaller and smaller as she herded the sheep away. He sighed deeply, his dark hair blowing into his face as he turned back towards town, and started on the long walk back there.
