I hope my chicken math is correct. But we bought 8 chicks last week, and lost the two bantam chicks that were very tiny and had pasty butt, but I don't believe I got to them in time, leaving 6 Golden Comet chicks. So tonight we went to Rural King to see if we could luck into any more $.50 older chicks. No such luck, but the did the the SLW chicks that I so desperately wanted, so I got 10. You know just in case two die and even though they are supposed to be pullets...well you get the idea. Upon further browsing, it hit me that with 25 barred rock chicks coming mid-April, we were already going to have 3 breeds going, so I thought, well I might as well get a couple RIR chicks, because they are known for being good layers, so I got 4 of those, and I always thought the Buff Orpingtons looked like big teddy bears, so I got 2 of those. All of these were just in case I wasn't happy with one breed, and I could make a very educated decision on what I would like to raise later. That's smart right? Well, let's hope my husband sees the logic behind it, and is willing to build yet another coop.
