We received absolutely devastating news. The vet contacted up for a follow up on our rooster, Blueberry. She notified us that they tested postive for mycoplasma, and that the entire flock would be euthanized. I still can not wrap my head around why, but it is mandatory under our provincial poultry act. She informed me that chickens can live with the illness. Apparently, owners can treat the symptoms flare ups with antibiotics. Although, since the illness remains in the chickens system forever and where it is contagious… the province literally comes takes all the birds for euthanasia. I tried fighing it explaining he has been isolated in the house for four weeks since we noticed something was wrong. The other birds weren’t showing symptoms either! She explained that even in one chicken testes postive and the rest negative they still take them all.

I don’t have the energy to go into more details. I am a absolute mess right now. I love them so much. They are our pets, and I consider them kids. I don’t want to lose any of them! Please pray for us.

Oh my goodness I’m so sorry for your loss😟.
I just came across your post as I’ve been doing hours of research on mycoplasma today. You mentioned this is a province poultry act so I’m assuming you live in Canada. Are you in BC by any chance? That’s where I live and I’m terrified of my flock catching mycoplasma

Oh no! How can this be true!? Please, God, help these babies!

A lesson we have learned from your flock:
If even one of our chickens gets sick, we are not going to a vet! We will come to BYC for help….

Question! What would the legal consequences be IF you didn’t allow the poultry police access to your flock?? This might be worth quickly looking into!!!
