Aww cute little guy.is it all by its self? Can you get another one so its not lonely?![]()
This is ilovemysilkie's dad. We bought 26 chicks on 4-1, but unfortunately her first silkie died after two days-the only bird we've lost so far. She was heartbroken, which almost made me cry, so I called the hatchery to see if I could buy another one and just have them put it in my friend's box (who was picking up 12 or 14 birds for himself on 4-8). They said they would replace it for free, even though I insisted (unsuccessfully) on paying for it. However, I was told I needed to keep it separate from the others for the first week, so I now have two brooders side-by-side. Her new little guy or gal is doing well. This coming Monday I will separate the meat bids from the layers into the two separate brooders and keep them separated from now on. Those meat birds just run over everything in their path when I fill the troughs back up!! Anyways, our flock consists of:
2 Barred Rock
2 White Rock
2 Silver-laced Wyandotte
2 Black Australorp
2 Buff Orpington
2 Americana (Easter Eggers)
1 Silkie
1 Mille Fleur
6 Cornish Cross
6 Red Ranger
This our first time raising chickens, but I have researched enough to know how to do it right. I check them in the morning before I go to work, my wife (LotusMFleur) and ilovemysilkie check them during the day, and when I get home from work I check them several times throughout the night before bed. I just started building the coops this past weekend, so ilovemysilkie is going to document the progress so we can post it on this site. We really like this site; I gained much of my knowledge from here (in addition to a few books and magazines), so I am very grateful that it exists. Many thanks goes to everyone here!!
This is my splash cockerel, Ace Ventura. Hatched him from Catdance eggs.
This is my blue hen Iris, even though she doesn't look blue here in this picture, due to bad colors. Picked her up at one of the shows to breed to Ace.
This one is Sniffles, another one of my Catdance youngsters. Hatched the same time as Ace.
This is Sniffles a couple of weeks later.
And some PQ chicks that we hatched for the fun of it...and because people kept asking for adoptable Silkies.![]()
This actually might be little Ace, less than a day old.I only had 2 splash chicks hatch and Ace of course was one of them.![]()
