I have had my Cochin for about 12 days. The first week she was quiet just the occasionally cluck cluck, she did also lay 3 eggs in the first week. Then all of a sudden one morning as soon as I come out to let the dogs out she sees me and starts clucking really loud. Now it has become a habit and she has done it every morning since. I do have bantam chicken with her (can’t remember which breed) and she does not do this. She has a coop where she can come outside whenever she wants. It really does not bother me, but I am scared that once it cools off and the neighbors have their windows open it will be too loud for them. They do know I have a chicken and said it does not bother them, but this was before she started being so loud. Chickens are also not allowed in my area, so I am trying to be as low key as possible about it. I did read that it can be because she laid and egg and is bragging about it. But she has been doing it every morning as soon as she sees me and keeps going at it for about 10 minutes on and off, but there hasn’t been an egg every morning. If anyone has any suggestions to help me out. She is over a year old.

Some chickens are just noisy. She's probably just happy to see you, or happy its morning and time to go out and peck around and do chicken things. Who knows. Maybe you could try throwing out a handful of scratch (or raisins, cat food, sunflower seed, whatever) in the mornings. Perhaps if she is busy eating a morning treat she may forget about being a loud mouth. If your neighbors complain, you could always take them some eggs. Tell them that loud hen is just telling them she hopes they enjoy them....good luck!

So do you possibly know if bantys are as loud as normal size hens? I am thinking about giving my regular Cochin to a friend on a farm and just getting a couple of bantys. I am just thinking since they are a lot smaller then they might not be as loud. But I may be totally wrong cause I am completely new to this.

I have a couple americanas and they will cluck loudly whenever they are scared.

I have a bantam rooster and he is way louder and more high pitched than normal sized roosters, but I am not sure about hens.

I have 2 girls that are loud loud. they talk non stop and scream lol. yep I was worried also, but what can I do, I go to the pen and tell them to shut there pie holes,LOL they do, and look at me funny. when I let them out to free range in the afternoon until bed time they do not make a peep. there so cute. I think there just happy to get up in the morning and are chatting away.
