Loud Coturnix Crowing

Some of my roosters just started crowing yesterday. They are about 6 weeks old. I was penning my horses this afternoon, and I could hear them crowing from 500yards away! I have used a laser rangefinder to check the distance from my yard to a brushline across the creek behind my house when watching deer feed , so I know how far I was from the house. It was supprising how loud they were. I enjoyed listening to them, but thought how the coyotes were probably drooling listening and waiting for dark to check out the new sounding dinnerbell.

My wife keeps a pen with about 50! of the little loud mouths right outside our bedroom window!
I get to wake up to their crows every morning at 5 am.

they're not all loud promise ya. However, hearing the ones that ARE loud far off is neat. my findings here (which i've said before) the smaller the coturnix the louder the crow, the bigger the coturnix the more mummbliy the crow.

My jumbo roos go "yahahh." and it's very quiet
my tiny guys (normally my tuxedos) are pretty vocal but still not as loud as my tiny A & m roos were....tehy were litterally ear piercing.

my mom said she liked the crows, and thought they were cute and pretty. i like them and think they're neat, but it gets annoying after they do it 10 times per minute

Good god, yes, they're loud, and I'm in suburbia! They started under my bedroom window, the young chickens were there no problem ~ not the 'bachelor' quail roos! Dang. Moved them as far away from my window (all of 40 ft) and they woke me up at all hours. Like every hour, starting at 3am. Then it got more frequent. Then it was for longer, and finally non-stop starting at 5am!

Yeah, I processed them yesterday, at not quite 7 weeks. Next time, I'd be able to wait the 12 weeks if they're an abundance of hens, but the bachelor roos? Like the rooster chickens, 'If it crows, it goes!'
