I got two chickens about 4 days ago. One has been laying since the day after we got her. The other has not. This morning myself and unfortunately one of my neighbours were woken up by a loud sqeeeeeeee sque sque sque sque at 5:30am. The one girl is in her box doing her thing and the non layer is walking around the run screaming to the world. My friend yesterday whos a rancher said her husband thinks she might be a he. How do i shush her up? Or should i just give her back for being a loud mouth? Lol

Thats what i feared. Wish i could post the video of it making the sound. My husband messaged the guy he got them from and i think we might be able to bring it back and get a different hen

So one of my friends who has had chickens forever says that it is a hen and she may be cycling and just wants to sit. She recomended putting golf balls into the nest and tarping the coop to keep it dark

Crazier thing are possible. You can make it a little nest as simple as you want (we sometimes just cut a hole in one side of a Rubbermaid storage tote) and see if it sits. I can't really tell what breed it might be to know if it would have wattles that big. But usually a hen has nice small wattles that don't leave the feathers. You can check the sides of its legs for Spurs. Most roosters will grow them about an inch off the ground inside or back of leg.
