Ugh, I have a squeaky wheel too. This girl has the most irritating voice that she uses ALL the time about everything. She's pushy, intimidates the younger ones, and no amount of treats makes her happy. I don't know how long I will put up with it. Hope you find a solution to your problem hen.

I just recently sold the world's loudest buff duck along with her boyfriend to people who live in the country. My suburban neighbors are much relieved I am sure.

Is this an Australorp thing? Mine starts her bock bock BAWK-ing at around 7:30am and will keep going for usually an hour, unless a cat happens to walk by, then she won't shut up. She's SO loud, and at first I thought it was her egg song, but she doesn't lay until about 10am or later; I think she's just... singing.

Luckily I only notice it when I'm in the back of the house, and I hate my neighbors so the noise level isn't an issue for us (I actually put the coop as close to their house as the law would allow- yes I'm that immature). Anyway, I wonder if that's an Australorp trait? Pretty interesting!

I have a beautiful young welsummer hen who lays 6 a week of the most interesting, dark red-brown eggs with red speckles, and I only got her because she used to be a city dweller and was WAY too loud for in town. She's incredible. It sounds like someone's choking her at the end, but she still gets the volume way up. Weird! Who knows why some are so freaking loud and others you never hear from.

I have to say, if she's bugging you that much, trade her in for a nice quiet girl. It's no fun listening to that when you're trying to sleep.

I have 8 loud mouths one gets going and it sets the others off. They do this from the break of day till dark. I don't know why they do this they just do. Good thing I live in the country even though I have close neighbors noone says anything. I guess that could be because we have put up with our neighbors aggervating dogs for years they don't mind my chickens..LOL (BUT they do however complain about my daughters 5 month old puppy running into their house when she is let out..LOL) She is a stinker!..HAHA

Those stinkers, they do do that!! Why when we give them more than 1 nest box, they have to have a fit over the one? They are funny girls, gotta love 'em though.

I hopefully am gonna solve this problem with my new coop. I am going to try the community nest box route and see how that goes. they all want the same one any way...​

I loved reading all the comments. I started this post after yet another morning of no sleep past 6am, which just sort of starts to add up, since I like to work in the evenings. Yeah...my Australorps does sound terrible...like choking sounds too, I mean really not "singing" as much as top volume squack/yell/screaming. For hours. I got an Australorps too cause I read that they were nice, sweet, friendly egg layers. NOT MINE

I've decided to take my mom's advice and try keeping the garden hose next to the door, and squirting her whenever she gets going with this in the morning. Works in cats, but I have no idea if this is possible for a chicken, who seems to get possessed by terrible fits of squawking.

After that, next step is trying to trade her to a nice no-kill home in the country where she can squawk before sunrise and for hours to her little hearts content. Thanks for all the info.

I don't know if squirting her with a garden holes would work. I somtimes spray my chickens in the summer when it gets very hot and humided and it seems to set them off on their none stop squawking.​
