Can chicken's get used to constant loud sounds from a young age? I live near a road that sometimes has very noisy cars that pass by.

They'll get used to it. My hens follow me around the fence when they hear the mower, or wander around my feet when I'm using a drill, if I allow it.

Mine are remarkably indifferent to heavy machinery.

This is Chipotle supervising the crew that was using a trencher and running electric and water to our new house not 50-feet from their fence.

Another time we had tree work done. They freaked out a bit when the chipper started 10 feet from their fence (I'd actually had to shift the fence in closer to give the tree crew a little more room), but soon went right back to their chicken business and ignored the men and machinery completely.

Yes I'm sure they can. I live only a few miles from a large airport and their are loud planes flying over our place all the time. At first the chickens and ducks would freeze and watch them but now they don't even bat an eye. We also have dirt bikes, farm trucks, and big tractors that go by the coop all the time. They are used to our loud noises. Well, once while free ranging my rooster didn't like the dirt bike so close and full on charged it as my brother was riding by. 😬 Hes fine though and hasn't tried it again.:gig

We brooded our first three in the garage, while also building their coop. They grew up with the sound of very close table and chop saws, as well as cars up and down the alley and traffic from a major street nearby. Totally fine with it. I'm sure they were scared at first, but they got used to it as normal, non-dangerous sounds.

Today, one of our hens is basically the forechook on any construction project. She loves it when we start working (because there is usually digging, and digging = worms). She comes RUNNING when she hears a shovel.
