LOUD Squawks - Hen Over a Year Old?

This girl is driving me bananas.

Stays in the coop all day. She's been broody. She's currently laying eggs (so, not broody) but refuses to leave the coop unless escorted outside. She was bald last winter from roo mounting issues. We put a jacket on her. She took it off and her feathers are back. She doesn't cluck or join in the egg song. Randomly throughout the day she will open her beak and make the loudest, bellowing SQUAWK. It's obnoxious and it's been happening for a couple of weeks now. What in the world is her deal? She isn't displaying signs of illness. I have no clue.

I'm sure she leaves the coup when I'm not looking. The only large piles are from a broody who just hatched out a dozen chicks. Do baby chicks in the coup cause this behavior for hens? I was willing to have her try to sit on some eggs in a crate but she refused.

If she's laying and not displaying signs of illness then I'd say she's probably healthy. They usually stop laying if there's a medical issue. If you've checked her over and found nothing wrong with her then as far as the noise, what breed is she? Some breeds are louder than others and more reactive. Hens do sometimes try to crow, maybe this is her attempt at that? If she doesn't want to go out of the coop without an escort is there something that might be bothering her, are any of the others reacting to anything? If not, then maybe she's just...different. Not all chickens hatch out right either physically or mentally.

This is her last fall. She's a BYM. She lays milk chocolate brown eggs. She lost her feathers and was avoiding all the teenage roos (we dispatched most of them). Her feathers grew back last month a more solid dark brown. She was broody and not laying for a bit. She started laying again but still stays in the coup most of the time. She eats and drinks. She only recently started making that awful noise. She's not wheezing or acting sick. She's just acting bizarre.

Beautiful girl. Might be give her a little space of her own for a little while if that possible see if she still making that sound.

I did that with mine, she was quiet for awhile then wanted back to the flock and sometime later here that sound again. So on an off we went.

Likely agitated about something. Could be anything. Like my babies do that when I'm checking the eggs and they want me to crack one open for them to eat. Or there might not be an obvious reason why....Who knows what is going on in that little head of hers!😆 This is the first reason that comes to mind why she is doing that if she isn't showing any signs of illness. Who knows, something could also be going on inside of her body that's causing her pain or making her uncomfortable. Keep an eye on her.
