Loudest breeds?

Our neighbor's gold comet rooster is probably the loudest of the 7 roosters in the neighborhood. My EE runs a distant second. Her RIRs tie for third. Another's neighbor's GC we can hear but he's quieter. Our cochin is probably the quietest although his crow is only 3 syllables instead of the usual 4.

In most cases it varies from bird to bird, not with breeds. But, how it is in my flock. . . .

In terms of the egg song, my Araucanas are the most annoying. My Shamo makes absolutely NO egg song, as gamefowl do not make eggsongs.

In terms of general chatter, my Easter Eggers are the quietest. My Brahmas are the noisiest.

In terms of crowing, my Ameraucanas crow the least, but my Marans have the least annoying crow. It is deep, not high pitched.

My orpingtons are fairly quiet, but if they want out for some free ranging or if I've not come out of the house at the right time to forage with them (I walk around with them just before dark) I get b*tched out by one of them. It really makes me laugh to see her at the back door screaming at me to come out and play.

My RIR is soooooo loud I can here her up at the house.. She bickers ALL the time.. non stop

My EE never says a peep
My Rocks are only noisy when im in the coop

My dark cornish is my loudest of the older ones. She sings an egg song for herself and cheers on the EE when she is laying. The EE kind of coos. Everytime I go out. Her coo gets louder if I do not give her a treat (we have spoiled them), but it is still quiet.

The BR chicks are still pretty quiet, the cheap still.

We have some EE chicks that are a couple of weeks old and the biggest one is so loud. WE have one that if you are holding it, it will cheap loudly until you pet its neck. Then if you stop, it starts cheaping again until you pet it again. It is a cutie. I wanna keep it if it is a pullet, but I wonder if it will always be that loud.

I agree. There's somethign strangely comforting about it. We've learned to sleep through the crows of our 2 (not to mention next door neighbor's 4 and down the road neighbor's 1) and if the windows are closed, we don't even hear them.

I do have a few chatty hens: the dominant one in each pen. They follow me around at chore time and chatter, "bawk, bawk, bawk, BOCK, bawk, bawk ..." I swear they're gossiping about the others.

I would say my BO's are the most vocal. My hens seem to have their own cliques - the Barred Rocks are best friends, the BO's are best friends and my RIR's are best friends. But hands down, the BO's are the loudest when they, or their buddy is laying. If one hen is in the coop, their buddy is frantic that they can't find their friend.

Our Buff Orps and one EE are the loudest, usually when the rooster a few doors down is crowing. I think they are trying to out-do him.

My fiance is driven to despair by the roos crowing but I find it easier to ignore say, than barking dogs, because they're just doing what roos do and it's nothing to cause concern. Barking dogs make you wonder if there's a problem. In the middle of the night once I heard what sounded like gunshots coinciding with one of my roos with insomnia. I got all paranoid and was going to bring a sleeping bag and plant myself outside the coop: "They're gonna have to kill me first." It never happened again so I guess it was a weird coincidence, but I have since insulated the coop which helps muffle the 3 am crowing. Some of my roos spend entire days trying to outcrow the others. I wonder how they don't get hoarse and if the hens feel like they're going deaf when it happens in the coop- "Mom get up and let us out already. Two of my roos never make noise (shhhh...I don't want to jinx it). I just assumed it was the personality of the bird more than anything. Not a scientific observation at all, but in my bunch it seems like the noisiest ones are the highest in the pecking order.

My Spitzhauben roo is the drama diva of the bunch and will announce any bit of bird gossip, pre-empt the egg songs, etc. I don't know if he's the loudest per se, but he is definitely the most theatrical.
