For some reason, I just can't get into owning an incubator and the whole incubator craze. I read too many horror stories and post here on BYC about people asking about temps, humidity, moisture, etc. I don't have time for all of that. I would go crazy out of my mind worrying about stuff like that.
With my hens, I slip eggs under them, mark the calendar to check in 21 days, make sure they have food and water and I just wait. I let the hens worry about turning and all of that other stuff. Maybe in this lifetime, I ll get the incubator fever. NOT !!!!!!!!
The only differences is, is when you want to hatch the eggs. You know when yours go broody so if you wanted to hatch any other time of the year you couldn't, without an incubator. Unless they go broody all the time!!
Yes, that's true, but I guess I don't ever "want" to hatch eggs like most people. When I get about 100 - 150 chicks during broody season, the idea of "wanting" to hatch eggs is blown right of the door because I have gotten more than I really need. I am always on hatch overload. After I have my yearly chick hatches, I'm done. Then it's time for the other animals (ducks, geese, turkeys) to hatch babies. So, I pretty much hatch all year long but just with different animals. I guess that's where the hatching bug doesn't get me. I guess if my hens only hatched 10 or so chicks at one time, I would probably have the "want" to hatch more but I sometimes have 10 hens setting on 10 eggs at one time.
