I tell ya you realize how hardy they are when you have a broody hatch a cluth in the dead of winter and you watch those little things run around in 22 degree weather like it's nothing!!

I on the other had love the cold and would much rather work outside when it's like this!!

Too funny !! Thanks for the laugh. I needed that.

Has anyone ever had a shrink wrapped chick that came out with leg issues? If so, did it make it? I had one a couple hatches ago that had splayed legs, but they corrected themselves after a couple days. Of the 5 that hatched this week, 2 are doing really well, 2 so-so, and 1 super weak. The 3 that aren't doing awesome were the ones that struggled to hatch. Ugh. Anyone, I know one for sure, and maybe the other two has a leg problem. I told my husband that if it didn't seem any better by tomorrow, I'm tape/bandaid it into position for a day or two to try to straighten it. It really looks like a muscle issue more than anything else. My little neice was folded into a V in utero, and she has to be in a brace after she was born so that he legs could straighten out...that's what I'm thinking the chick(s) may need.

This hatch has been so much more drama than all my others!!

I came home to the same thing today. I have 1 chick out of 6 that was well for lack of any better words stuck in the shell. I let it go for about 24 hours then went ahead and helped it out. I did not realize it at the time but today it defiantly has some leg problems. So thinking (fingers crossed) that it might be dried gunk on it's leg, I washed it in warm water with a tooth brush. I got the gunk off but it still can't walk. I'm thinking well that's why it could not get out the shell in the first place....I don't know if I should give it a day now or to or just cull.

I had one on thanksgiving that had all kinds of problems, couldn't get out the shell, walk, crooked neck and is the runt to boot. other then being small he is doing great now. So I'm at a loss with what to do for this guy I have now.

Good luck with yours,
Chris

It's so pitiful! I guess I'll just keep watching them and hope for improvement. Worst case scenario, I have two super healthy ones.
