"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

The feed is in those big plastic totes, but they were actually eating out of the feeders themselves.

Sounds like you should empty out those feeders at night, so they don't have anything to chow down on.

I might have to do that. Not nearly as exciting as busting a few caps.

My geese have been mating for the last 2 - 3 months. They normally don't start laying until February. I've started pairing them up and putting the pet carriers or dog houses in place for them to lay in. My geese will sometimes make their nest on the ground but I've found it quite easy to move their nest to a suitable shelter. I just pick up their nest that they've built and move it intact. Once moved, they will thoroughly check it out and resume nesting in it. I don't know if all geese are like this but that is what my geese do.

You are so lucky to be able to pick up their nest and move it. If I even touch their nest, they are DONE with it.

I have some weird geese. It's like they are telling me, "Well you moved them now YOU sit on them because that is NOT where I want them to be."

Mine usually begin laying in late December which is in a week or 2. That's why I set the pet carriers up early so they can see that everything is ready. I want to concentrate on having a successful hatch this year being as though a lot of people have been asking me to buy geese and I want to sell some next year.

Terri, I thought about yesterday evening when I went out to the chicken yard and saw 2 roosters mailciously attacking/breeding a hen. I was so upset.

I immediately grabbed BOTH of them. One with the right hand and the other with the left hand. I yanked their butts off the ground and off of her, marched over to an empty coop and put them in. Then I proceeded to walk around every coop and yanked 9 more roosters from the roosts. I have HAD IT with roosters. I DO NOT WANT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!! I will be sending their butts to the freezer.

I HATE to see a rooster breeding a hen. It is TOO VIOLENT! I don't like it AT ALL!

I'm having the same problem. I have so many hens missing back feathers that it's pitiful. And I only have 2 roosters and they have 25 or 30 hens to go at. It's unreal. (I'm not counting my silkies or my silkie roosters because they tend to stick to themselves.) Getting rid of them isn't really an option, as I breed, but I may have to seperate the little rapists.

I have may 2 or 3 that are gentleman but the rest are "gansters"! And I can do without the crime in hood, oops, I mean chicken yard. I don't care if I NEVER see another rooster. I really don't need them. Next year, I'm concentrating on my egg business and trying to fill all of these egg orders. So, if I have 150 hens, I will be as happy as a lark.

I think the roosters were stressing my girls out. The bad boys would start out breeding at 6:00 AM and not let up until around 8:00PM. They were knocking the girls off of the roosts and trying to get to them. That was totally uncalled for. It's not necessary to do all of that.
