Oh, he's fancy!
My husband went out to check on the chickens last night before bed. He said there was a family of rats in the coop eating feed.
I am so freaking grossed out right now. According to him, the biggest one is the size of a freaking cat!
: He shot at them twice and missed. He said the birds weren't even freaking out or anything, so they must not bother them. I don't even know what to do! He's going to get some traps today. I couldn't even sleep last night. Seriously, so dang nasty.
Between my bad hatch and my new infestation, I've had more chicken drama than I don't know what lately.
As for the babies, two are super healthy, and there's one with the questionable leg, but I have her bandaided up and I'm trying to fix it. Other than the leg, she looks fine...growing, bright eyed, etc. I guess time will tell.
What do you store your feed in?
Hey there La-yers good mornin to ya,
Yeah you just about have to have something bullet-proof to keep those "varmits" out of the feed and don't leave any in the feeders over-night as a calling card to entice them to come on in for a free meal either. I put out just enough feed for the 'ol gals to eat during the day and by beddy-bye time they have cleaned up all there is that was left. This takes a little more time figuring out how much to do but after a few days you'll have a general idea of how much they eat during the day. Then I get up the next mornin and start anew. It's troublesome somewhat, but not nearly as troublesome as those nasty(@$$) things and what package they bring along with them.
