"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I let mine out on the weekends when I'm around the house & can keep an eye on them-- I also keep a rake under the carport & if they start wandering where I don't want them to go -- say, to the front yard next to the highway or over by my garden -- I wave the rake & tell them "SHOO! SHOO!" & they run back where they belong in the back of the place--- they know what SHOO! means -- they go inside by themselves at sundown & are locked up for the night. Too many predators around here to let them roam free all of the time.

Just wanted to drop in and say hi, I havent got on all weekend. Busy with chickens. Picking up chickens, dropping off chickens, building chicken pens

Oh, he's fancy!

My husband went out to check on the chickens last night before bed. He said there was a family of rats in the coop eating feed.

I am so freaking grossed out right now. According to him, the biggest one is the size of a freaking cat!

: He shot at them twice and missed. He said the birds weren't even freaking out or anything, so they must not bother them. I don't even know what to do! He's going to get some traps today. I couldn't even sleep last night. Seriously, so dang nasty.

Between my bad hatch and my new infestation, I've had more chicken drama than I don't know what lately.

As for the babies, two are super healthy, and there's one with the questionable leg, but I have her bandaided up and I'm trying to fix it. Other than the leg, she looks fine...growing, bright eyed, etc. I guess time will tell.

What do you store your feed in?

Twiley, is it time for your geese to start laying? I just came in from preparing their large dog carriers so mine will have somewhere to lay. They were walking around all of the pet carriers and checking them out, so hopefully they know to lay in there and not all over the darn place.

The feed is in those big plastic totes, but they were actually eating out of the feeders themselves.

Hey there La-yers good mornin to ya,
Yeah you just about have to have something bullet-proof to keep those "varmits" out of the feed and don't leave any in the feeders over-night as a calling card to entice them to come on in for a free meal either. I put out just enough feed for the 'ol gals to eat during the day and by beddy-bye time they have cleaned up all there is that was left. This takes a little more time figuring out how much to do but after a few days you'll have a general idea of how much they eat during the day. Then I get up the next mornin and start anew. It's troublesome somewhat, but not nearly as troublesome as those nasty(@$$) things and what package they bring along with them.

Sounds like you should empty out those feeders at night, so they don't have anything to chow down on.

Thanks for the advise to my problem. I will start locking them up at night. They do go in the coop every day to lay eggs. My neighbor just got a couple of roosters.
