"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Yes, I know but what does she have to do to become certified? Is it the same process as with poultry? Do all of the large animals go through the same process?

I think we may have something confused so let me see if I can get it right....I called the head guy to see about getting the NPIP testing done. He gave me the name of the State vet for my area that does this. I then asked if this was something my wife could do since she is a vet. He told me that she would have to be certified to do the NPIP testing. I asked what was involved with that and he replied we would have to show her how to get the samples and how to fill out the paperwork. He said that it's not a big deal....if she wants to get certified to have her call him. Horses don't do a NPIP but are suppose to get a coggins every year. It's a blood test that she sends to a lab with some paperwork and 3 pics of the horse. She has never gotten a positive but if she did they (the state) would come get the horse and put it down.

I don't think that she had to be certified to do the coggins on horses....just have a Vet's Lic. for that State. Hope this helped............Chris

Now I get it. ;)

Thanks for the explanation.

Missi, did you decide what breed turkeys you want to get? This is what the Bourbon Reds look like. This is my crew. Turkeys are great to have. They are LOADS of entertainment!

Gracie, do you remember the name of the farm that sells the registered sheep? I am changing out my ram and I think I will try to get a ram from that place . Let me know if you still remember the name. One of the babies is a male, so he will have to go as well. :hit

I found the site. I called the guy and they will have rams ready in a couple of months.

He seem to be when I talked to him on the phone. So this is a yearly thing right? Any idea what it's going to cost me? Chris

I think in La. its free I believe I'm correct on this. Someone that is certified could tell you. I don't even try because I live around too many chicken farms (Broiler houses) and my neighbor cousin has half as many as I do running all around the neighborhood, so I don't see much good in it other than if your going to be a major supplier of chicks to be sold. I would have to be hog-tied and locked away if the extermination crew showed up here I'd reckon. Not saying my place is corrupted with disease as I surely have a low mortality rate around here with the numbers of birds on the property, but you never even know what you bring in on your own shoes from town at the feed store and such much less the wild birds and don't even get that one started up.

Until I get to big-timing and scale my operation down some ,I'll just stay NPIP uncertified till the time seems nye. I don't see much relevance in it esp. only if the birds are tested annually as a lot can come and go in a years time. Just my opinion and everyones has one right?LOL
