I have some Coronation Sussex but I'm near Lake Charles. Would you want to try hatching some eggs?

I wouldn't know where to begin with that. I have had chickens for less than a week as it is, lol Any way to do it without having a broody hen or an incubator? LOL

Hey would anyone be interested in buying oegb/silkie bantam chicks? I just hatched 3 and they are adorable, and super tiny. My rooster is about the size of a serama. I am considering gathering for a batch if I think people would want them. This is Caesar the daddy. Here are the three I just hatched they are 3 days old. 2 have 5 toes like silkies, and one has 4 toes. They all have a line of feathers running down to one toe.

OK! Hang in there..., you'll be addicted to chickens just like the rest of us in the very near future.

Where are you located? I have a few chicks hatched now and will hopefully be hatching lots more this spring. Maybe we can get you what you want.

Grambysfarm, I am in Slidell. Do you ever come out this way? I rarely ever pass 55, lol

On another note, these little suckers are funny! I was outside reading today and let them just run around. The one we call Minnie (our little sickly one) has basically adopted the two chicks. She sits on them at night, and ushers them around the yard. Needless to say, I read a couple pages in my book and looked up. I saw the two biggest birds but didn't see Minnie or the babies. We looked everywhere! We called the guy whos property backs up to ours for permission to go into his woods and see if they went back there, we looked for over an hour. I went to put Stratus and Thunder in their tractor and found Minnie and the babies nestled in the long grass-like landscaping by the tree. I never even saw them until Stratus ran over to them when I was trying to catch her. I was so flustered!

As far as them being sick goes, nary a cough or sneeze in our coop now. Guess I'm learning chicken medicine because they are getting better! Much more active today than they were yesterday when they were out even! I didn't know they were even acting wrong! Guess I'm not so bad a mommy after all! Are they supposed to like crushed up crawfish shells? If not, they sure did go nuts when they found our leftovers from last night!

Oh and the little black baby, yeah, pretty sure he is going to be a he... He is getting aggressive and jumping at the other birds, he jumps at the dog, his comb is a lot more pronounced that even the older birds, and he is fluffing his feathers up a lot. His tail feathers are growing much faster that the other baby that is supposed to be the same age as well. The kids named him Skunky because of the stripe on his head, so I'm glad it is not a girly girl name!

It sounds like you are really enjoying your chickens. That is great! I find chickens to be quite funny as well. I enjoy feeding them small pieces of bread and watching them run around stealing it from each other. I never thought of feeding them crawfish shells either, but I went over to visit my son last weekend and he had thrown all of the crawfish shells in the chicken pen. Like you said, they really ENJOY crawfish.

I rarely travel to Slidell but go to Lafayette quite often.

OMG this is soooo frustrating trying to find a partridge silkie rooster! I've been looking on the web at silkie sites and I can't find a partridge silkie roo for sale to save my life! WAHHHH. My new coop is ready, and I need a roo... :( Here are pics of my new silkie pen. I will only keep 5, 6 at the most silkies in here, and I will let me free range in my yard mostly. This is such a cool design my hubby came up with. The top opens so that you can walk into the coop! I was going to put chicken wire on the floor but we ran out. My dogs keep all the critters outta the yard that would try to dig under the pen though, so it most likely wont be a problem. The coop is 5x5x3. I have 4 silkie hens in there right now.

Howdy all!

Just reminding everyone that is interested in coming, the 2012 Backyard Poultry Expo will be on April 21st at the P&M farm store in West Monroe! We have a lot of prizes this year including another incubator from Brinsea and another from eggcartons.com. We have tables available. Currently I have in my bator for the event.. Runner ducks, mixed ducks,, khaki campbell's and of course barred rocks, and a butt load of seramas!

The flyer is ready at louisianachickens.com
