"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey everyone! Great to see people from Louisiana on here. If anyone lives near the Opelousas area, there is going to be a Chicken Sell and Swap at the Tractor Supply in Opelousas off of Hwy 90 on May 6th! It will be held from 9am to 1pm. It will be the 2nd one held there. They just had the first one on April 1st. Hope to see more people out there this time :yiipchick  Spread the word :jumpy

Hey there. I live in Opelousas. I went to the swap this past weekend just to see what was out there. Were you there? I probably saw you if so. Welcome to the greatest thread on BYC. :frow

I put my baby gosling out with the others on yesterday to see how they would react to the baby. They ran away from him at first but then they couldn't resist his little cute fuzzy butt. They warned up to him and then turned on ME and I couldn't get him back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did me a favor because they were his babysitters on yesterday as I was doing all of the chores. They wouldn't let the other other animals get close. They watched him for about 2 hours with no problems. When I was ready to scoop him up, they attacked me and I ran like the wind. I tried a few more times. I was finally able to kidnap him and run away from them and bring him in.
Here are some pics.

The poor baby had snuggled in under one of the girls that are setting on eggs as it got later in the evening. I hated to get him from under her because he was sleeping soooooo good but it's just not safe out there for him now. He's too small. I will continue to allow him to be with the group every day while I am there but will have to take him inside at night. When he is big enough to be with the group, I will put him out there for good.

So so sweet Julie!! You always paint such an awesome metal picture!!

Hi there. Yeah me and one of my friends brought some of our chickens out there. I had brought some of my Barred Rocks, Rhode Islands, and a few of my Naked Neck Frizzle Cochin Bantams and my friend had brought some of her pigeons and show girls. I forgot signs, water, chairs, and cards with my information on them lol next time I will be more prepared! Will you be selling anything at the next swap? Loving this site btw

Pigeons? Show girls? I think I saw you. Did you have a black or brown showgirl? I"m not sure of the color.

No, I won't be selling anything.

My friend had some brown and white pigeons and she had a bunch of showgirl bitties and one hen to show what they would look like, not sure if she had any brown ones. I was in between a lady selling Silkie bitties and a guy selling bunnies lol and she was towards the other end. So what kind of chickens do you raise?

I saw her. Her pigeons were SOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :love :love :love They put on a show. The pigeons knew that people were looking at them because they were strutting and showing off their stuff. VERY NICE birds. When I was near her area, a man was buying about 5 babies. You probably saw me. I was the lady running like crazy back to her truck after seeing that Showgirl. I'm scared of showgirls. :hide That was my first time seeing a showgirl in person and hopefully will be the last.

As far as what chickens I raise, I have the basic barnyard breeds that the old timers like to have and keep and a few other breeds.

Rhode Island Reds
New Hampshire Reds
Barred Rocks
Buff Orpingtons
Delawares
Black Australops
Buff Brahams
Cochins
Jersey Giants
Leghorns

I think that's it. I may have forgot a few breeds.
