My animals get a fire (pics below) started every night for them when the temps are 30 degrees or below. So they are staying warm.

kuntrygirl, the smoke doesn't bother them??

No, the fire is on the opposite side of where they are. It's not too close to them. We only build the fire close enough so that they can feel a little warmth. The smoke never blows in the direction where they are. 2nd hand smoke kills, so I definitely wouldn't want the smoke killing them in the long run.

I was just curious, hope it didn't sound like I was implying anything!! I know how it is when we have fires going and we choose sites that are pretty far away from the house and animals. But my neighbors makes a big one in his back field and it likes to kill us with the smoke!!

Oh no, I didn't take it that way at all. Believe me, NOTHING offends me. I'm easy. I'm glad you bought that up in the event the smoke could have been bothering the chickens and I didn't realize it. I appreciate you pointing that out. It's always good to look at all sides. And you're right about that smoke though. I can smell the smoke when I go inside of the house at night, so I think that I am inhaling that 2nd hand smoke. Gosh Darnit!! I"m killing myself.

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain --- because at least it's WARMER!

Hope all you La-yers are having a peaceful and pleasant Sunday! Pouring another cuppa java here and watching the drizzle across the fields.

That's what I miss about Louisiana... warm rain.

Out here in northern California, if it's raining, that means it's winter and it's COLD rain. When we lived in Louisiana, I used to call it "warm bathwater rain". Loved it! Loved that everything is green out there 9-10 months of the year.

When we were out there, fog in July was a new thing to me, too. We only get fog in the dead of winter out here.

Well it's not raining here in Lacombe,,.. there is a lovely lavender sky and it's 68 wonderful degrees! After church we are going to work on the new coop and put the 3 wk old Barnies in the outdoor brooder for some exercise! I was drinking my coffee and walking with the flock this morning as they were eating grass and told them to be grateful to God because all those poor northern chickens had only snow! Now this is winter in Louisiana!
