"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Chris....Great pics! She is definitely a cutie pie! It was great to meet you the other weekend at the Covington sale.

Yes she is "must take after her mother for sure" I've seen Chris' picture before(made a copy and put it out in the corn patch as a scare-crow) Naw I'm kiddin' with you Chris she is a sweetie in those pics for sure looks like a future Barrel racer/pole-bender heck maybe even a calf roper you got yourself there, ol boy.

On a different note there Chris, those RIRs are sure growing fast and I think I'm gonna get me a good group of breeders out of them looks like so far, thanks for sharing with me.

Jeff

PS how do to all the rest of ya'll Layers and BYCers too.

Terri I haven't forgot about our deal yet, either. LOL still awaiting the machinist at the shop to call us to come over there and get the parts. IDK what's up still yet?

to all ya'll new Layers .

When I get a chance to post up some pics I'll show ya'll the 3(THREE) Black-@$$ chicken snakes me and BJ(my mouse/rat ,black-snake huntin/killin' "CATAHOULA CUR" dog and best pal, esp when he does his job good), last night. One was 6 FOOT 4 inches long, long as a well rope. I really was reluctant at grabbing holt of that one and jerking it out there and giving it a first class head smashing but we "gotter dun" for sure. One was full of 4 eggs and a golf ball, that's how I knew I had a problem when I counted balls and found one amiss so we went to snake hunting. They don't go too far, usually when they eat golf balls, they get a belly-ache and it slows down there forward progression esp. if they can't fit back out the hole they came in LOL.

They're still here Jeff but the longer you wait, the more roosters you'll have to take -- "rooster interest" lol!!!!

THREE snakes, holy cow!

I killed a pretty good sized black snake out at my coop yesterday evening -- I was going to bring fresh water inside & there that sucker was trying to get through the door -- that's the only way it could get in, as I have wire all around the outside of the coop on the ground.

Well I grabbed a big stick I keep just for that purpose & rapped it & backed it out the door & darn if it didn't try & come right back inside -- and then struck at me to boot! THAT got my Sicilian blood up so I whacked it on the head w/the stick & pinned it to the ground & yelled at Jim (who was hauling some limbs to the burn pile) to bring me a hoe, which he did & which I commenced to behead one big, black snake. Then I hauled that to the burn pile as well!!!
Now I'm keeping a hoe out at the barn - much better weapon than a plain stick!

Ok, question. Our lone small chicken is starting to get pointy feathers in its tail area. They are about a half to 3/4 in longer than the other tail feathers and markedly pointed. There look to be 3 or 4 of them and they are on the sides of the tail. Does this confirm a boy? I tried to get a pic but this lil sucker just will not stand still for me!! We think he is a barred rock, his comb is quite large and red already, he is getting wattles, but no spurs yet. He should be about 2 1/2 months old.

Hi I'm obviously new to the site and forum. I will be moving to Lafayette, La in Oct and want to start a little farm when I get back home. I was wondering what breeds do the best down in Lafayette and in Louisiana in general since I am new at this.

Oh, BTW, my name is Lisa and I am active duty Navy stationed in Oak Harbor, WA. I have a five month old son who loves all animals so far (he loves the feel of chicken feathers under his hand and loves to pet my friends silkies :) ). I also have a cat who knows who's in charge (her!),and a foster dog named Grace that I'm helping rehabilitate for a rescue up here called Happy Tails Happy Homes. Hope everyone has a blessed day.
