"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Forgot to add that the mosquitoes were HORRIBLE over the weekend. I sprayed some Skin So Soft Bath Oil Spray (excellent at keeping mosquitoes away) on the feet of the chickens and sprayed a mist of Skin So Soft in the coops and the mosquitoes IMMEDIATELY disappeared. I went out to check on them every few hours and to my surprise there were NO mosquitoes in the chicken coops. The chickens were fine the next day, so I think I will be using spraying Skin So Soft on their feet and will mist the air on the nights when the mosquitoes are really bad. I hate seeing those mosquitoes on them. :/

Great pics Julie! I'm going to have to figure out how to take pics & post them - haven't tried since the upgrade.

SO SORRY about your pea egg!

that would have just killed me, too. My Romeo's come up lame & I can't see any time of injury to him except he is favoring one foot. I think maybe he flew down & landed wrong & sprained it. He seems a bit better this morning - was putting weight on it. I think your bator will be just fine. I had to add a little water to mine this morning.

Too funny about that silkie! he sure was a strange-looking bird! Your turkeys definitely had him in high gear!

Midget turkeys - I *might* not be afraid of those. Not going to take the chance & find out though!

Well Jeffrey look at the bright side - if the deer keep hanging around, this fall you can get payback for feeding them - they can feed you!

Slow day at work - not complaining! I'm taking an online accounting course so catching up on my "homework" - 2 more classes & I'm done! We have a new person starting the 1st of June & are discussing changing our business hours to 8-4 M-Thurs. I can sure live w/that!

Kuntrygirl, that's the same hygrometer I was talking about! So happy you found it....and $1 cheaper than we got it for in Lake Charles. I love the picture of your turkeys chasing the roo. Sorry to hear about your pea egg. :(

Great. I wasn't sure if I had purchased the right one but I'm glad that it's the same thing.

I just love my bad kids (my turkeys).

Yea, I'm pretty down about the egg. Poor little baby had a few days left. :hit

You're doing great! Keep getting more !!!!!!!

Julie you are such an enabler!!!

I think my poor city yard is full. 6 chickens, 3 ducks, and a dog is enough until I find some acreage.... unless of course I just happen upon some poults.... lol

:yuckyuck

LOL @ happen upon some poults. That is VERY possible. :gig

Well, I won't enable you any more being as though you live in the city. :)

Good morning peeps. I hope everyone has been doing good and had a great weekend. I am just catching up on all of the posts. I was off Friday and Monday and I need ANOTHER day off.
Just a few incidents with me over the last few days as always...............
My neighbor's silkie rooster has found his way into my yard. When I saw him close to the fence, I literally froze in my steps. I was so TERRIFIED when I saw him.
hide.gif
He is SOOOOO UGLY! He looks like a monster to me. He looks like an alien that will attack at any minute. This poor fella is UGLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took some pics of the little ugly guy, so you all could see him. Well, thank heavens he wasn't in the yard long. Once the turkeys saw him, they flew over the fence and the rest was history. I was able to get a pic.

I LOVE MY TURKEYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO MORE ROO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure if the poor Roo is still alive. If I find a body, I will let ya'll know. I could have told the ugly roo that he was going on a suicide mission coming into my yard with my krazy group of turkeys.

Oh well, sometimes you have to find out for yourself.

On a sad note, I went out to pick eggs on yesterday and I noticed that one of my broody hens that was sitting on a pea egg had gotten off of the nest to go and eat and drink when another hen jumped up in the nesting box and cracked open the pea egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The eggs are scheduled to hatch on Friday. I will have a staggered hatch for about 3 days. I was soo hurt. The egg was fertile and a baby was developing insided!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Terri, the eggs are fertile and you could possibly get a pea chick.
I took a pic. BEWARE. It's graphic. I am so hurt. There are no words to describe how I'm feeling. This egg to me was the egg of all eggs. The Cadillac, The BMW , The Mercedes Benz of all eggs. WHY ?????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hit.gif
I am so depressed. I hope the other eggs are safe. If I catch the hen that did it, she WILL be gumbo. And that is serious for ME to say that because I have NEVER processed a hen but this one will be a dead hen.

I had a lot of orders for eggs to fill over the last few days and I took a pic of one of my orders. I am fresh out of eggs as of this morning. Good thing I bought the RIRs in December. I'm looking to buy about 50 more hens.

I purchased an electronic rat trap this weekend and it worked the 1st night. It was a bit pricey but I had to try something because I have been seeing a few small mice out in the chicken yard and I want them DEAD!
Here is a blurry pic of the dead mouse. BEWARE GRAPHIC

Here is a pic of the electronic rat trap that I bought from Tractor Supply.

Terri, the pea eggs that I have in the incubator are doing ok. I had a small problem the first night but I think that was my fault. I adjusted the temp and I turned the knob the wrong way. So, when I woke up the temp was at 101 but I immediately changed it . I hope that I didn't mess up the eggs.

I went to PetSmart on Friday and I bought this hygrometer. It was the only one that they had. I got lucky because it was only $6.99.

I think that's it for me La-yers.
Have a great day ya'll. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Julie, your post with that silkie rooster on the run is hilarious. Now, honestly, how long have you worked to train your turkeys to do that?

I'm SO sorry to hear about peacock egg. Bad, bad hen!! I know how you feel. A few weeks ago I tried to help a gosling hatch because it w Ias overdue and it ended up hatching too soon. It had not yet absorbed the yolk and died just a couple hours later. I should have just left it alone and let it hatch on its own. It sickened me because it was another one of my buff saddlebacks. I could have had two this spring if I had been a little patient.
hit.gif
I hope your other pea eggs hatch.

Love that rat trap! I want one of those. I saw a big rat in my coop last night. I'll be shopping for one soon.
