"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Peafowl are EXCELLENT eye candy in your yard.
Are they loud?

Let's just say you wouldn't want to hear the sound they make walking down a long, dark road at 2AM in the morning.

Oh my.

This is going to sound ridiculous, I am sure, but what are peacocks good for? They are beautiful, but do they kill snakes, eat ticks...? Are they loud? I shall consult Google as well.

They will kill snakes - don't know about the tick-eating but they eat just about everything so I would think they'd eat ticks, too.

They are graceful, elegant, beautiful to watch -- but can have their funny side too. They can be their own worst enemy sometimes! I like their calls - they are noisiest during their breeding season (about 3 months down here) otherwise they are relatively quiet. They are very curious -- like cats! - and will come to see what you're doing & try to "help" if they can.

They are the only birds I've ever had that my husband and my Dad both like. That says a lot right there!
If I could only have one kind of bird, it would be my peacocks.

I agree with you Terri. If I could have only one kind of bird, it would be the peas!!!!!!!!!!! I could have a yard full of them. :love

Hey everybody! been real busy lately working and stuff hadnt loged in a couple weeks

My RIRs are 8 weeks old now and a buddy told me i should take them off chick starter. But im looking for a more experience opinion. And also i ordered 2 roosters for 24 hens, but the hatchery sent me 4 roosters. they sent me one extra RIR rooster and the free exotic chick turned out to be a rooster. Is 4 roosters to much for 24 hens?

I keep my birds on Medicated Starter until they hit 4 months of age.

10 hens to one rooster is what most people do with a free range flock. you may get away with 3 over 24 hens but I would worry about 4.

Just my 2 cents,
Chris
