"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey everyone. I hope everyone is doing ok. Have a great weekend!

Good to see you back on! can you believe my peas are laying like crazy? Jim asked what to do w/the eggs & I told him to make an omelet (he didn't) -- I am so done for this year!

Hey Terri. Sounds like the girls are back at it again. I have collected 7 eggs and just couldn't see them go to waste. I put them in the incubator. :smack WHY ME?

I'll be glad when this is all over with. :hit I think I may make a pea egg omelet as well. :/

I am Celie and I live in Tickfaw, Louisiana. It is soooo wet here right now. First we had an extreemly hot beginning to the summer like most of the country, kept fans on the Turkeys and Rabbits, Then nothing but rain, for weeks, now ran every single day. Drenching rains and very humid. Moreso than usually. But on the brite side, we have had no hurricanes this year, YET! Thank God, he is still in control. But the earth is going through labor pains right now. Thanks for asking. I love BYC and would like to meet more animal lovers near me. Only moved here 3 years ago after Hurricanes Katina and Rita, made almost everyone in southern Louisiana homeless for a few years. Now back in a home, relocated and have lots of animals and hope to have more friends to talk to about them.

:welcome

and the La-yers thread Celie.

There are about 3 regulars here on this thread from your neck of the woods. 2 around the Covignton area and one in Amite,/Hammond area, anyway I guess a good place to meet a couple of them would be at the next swap at the feedstore (?) in Covinton whenever they have it again stay tuned in here and they will announce it most likely. Chris Herzog is one the other 2 names elude me at this time but they may be on an introduce themselves soon.

Are they fertile? I cracked one egg yesterday to check & it wasn't, so I guess it's true that when the males start to drop their tails, the eggs are no longer fertile.

Got all the young ones combined into one coop now! Will move them to the "grow out" pen this weekend.

I'm not sure and not sure how to check. I"ll have to see if the males have dropped their tales.

Here are a few pics of my white pea that hatched on May 30, 2012. He was outside on the back porch yesterday showing off.

He's gorgeous! just getting prettier all the time! I have to take some pics of mine to post. My 3rd "white" chick is not a white after all; looking to be either peach or cameo.

Garilyn sure hope you find your black Australorps! - I had one in my flock years ago - she was a great layer of a big brown egg!
